European Heritage Days: Discovering Grayan’s heritage

To mark European Heritage Days, the municipality of Grayan-et-L’Hôpital is organising a number of events on 19 and 20 September 2026, offering visitors the chance to discover the town’s history, natural heritage and religious heritage.



Saturday 19 September – Tour of the Gurp Forest

From 9.30 am to 11 am

Meet at the playground, opposite the Gurp Campsite

Accompanied by naturalist Laurent Andreu, set off to explore the Gurp Forest and its surroundings.

This tour will cover, in particular:

the formation of the dunes;
the history of the forest and its forestry uses since the 19th century;
the flora and fauna;
how the forest ecosystem works.


Saturday 19 September – Book launch

From 11.00 am to 12.30 pm

Municipal library

To mark its publication, Sylvain Sayo will present his book:

‘History of the communes of Grayan-et-L’Hôpital, once separate and now reunited’.

An event dedicated to the history of our commune and the reunification of Grayan and L’Hôpital.



Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September – Opening of the Chapelle de l’Hôpital

From 9.30 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm

L’Hôpital Chapel

The L’Hôpital Chapel will be open to the public throughout the weekend.

To mark the occasion, a collection of chasubles will also be on display. These liturgical garments are worn by the priest during the celebration of Mass.
