How to get to Médoc Atlantique ?
By train, by bus, by car or by bike, on the estuary or in the towns along the Atlantic coast, there’s no limit to the ways in which you can reach us and enjoy a fabulous, pressure-free holiday at Médoc Atlantique! Organise your trip and plan the itinerary that suits you best to reach the Eden of Aquitaine, where your adventures begin.
By car
Tous les chemins mènent rapidement à l’Eden Aquitain ! Le plus simple est de prendre l’autoroute jusqu’à Bordeaux, que vous veniez du nord ou du sud.
From Paris, the A10 takes you to Bordeaux in just over 5 hours.
From Lyon, take the A89, then the N89 and join the A630 (exit 8 towards Le Verdon-sur-Mer).
Southerners will be arriving via the A62 or A63.
From Bordeaux, there are two options: take the D1215 to reach Soulac-sur-Mer and Le Verdon in less than 2 hours, and all our estuary towns that border the same road. Or head for the Atlantic coast on the N215, then the D6, which takes you to Lacanau in an hour.
Electric recharging points are also available at the destination.
By train
By TGV, Bordeaux is just 2 hours from Paris: a godsend for getting to the Médoc Atlantique.
On the estuary side, a TER (Line 42) runs along the estuary to Le Verdon-sur-Mer via Lesparre and Soulac-sur-Mer. It’s fast and very practical!
In summer, a little tourist train also runs between Le Verdon-sur-Mer and Soulac-sur-Mer, ideal for a wind-in-your-hair ride.
By bus
Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional buses provide a wide range of services in the Médoc. They’ll take you to Lacanau, Carcans and Soulac-sur-Mer by coach, at very low cost. They’ll also help you get from village to village on the estuary without a car.
If you have any questions about the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region’s regular bus network, visit their website.

By ferry
There are two ferries that take you across the Gironde estuary to the Médoc without having to go round to Bordeaux: the ferry between Royan and Le Verdon-sur-Mer at the very tip of Grave, and the Blaye-Lamarque ferry further south.
On foot or by bike
Two major routes pass through the Médoc Atlantique: the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route and the Vélodyssée, a major cycle route (Eurovelo 1) that runs along the Atlantic coast from Roscoff to Hendaye.
Many service providers have adapted their facilities to suit cyclists and hikers.
There are plenty of local cycle paths throughout the Médoc Atlantique, making it possible to do everything without a car.
By plane
The nearest airport to Médoc Atlantique is Bordeaux Mérignac airport.
It is located just outside the centre of Bordeaux, and it takes just under an hour to get to Bordeaux Saint-Jean station or the Nouvelle-Aquitaine departure area by bus or tram. Shuttle buses are also available.
