Le Verdon - Soulac tourist train
LATEST UPDATE: The PGVS (Soulac-Le Verdon) has been cancelled following a prefectural order banning the use of internal combustion and electric engines, as well as any source of ignition, in exposed areas of predominantly forested municipalities. This measure remains in force until the current red alert is lifted.
The little tourist train takes you on a 7 km journey through the pine and oak forest, along the Atlantic coast. It connects the seaside resorts of Verdon-sur-Mer and Soulac-sur-Mer. Throughout the journey, the view takes in the Charente coast and the Cordouan lighthouse, a monument listed in 1862 as a historic monument and, on 24 July 2021, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It is also known as the PGVS tourist train as it runs from Pointe de Grave du Verdon to Soulac-sur-Mer.
Today, between 11,000 and 12,000 people are carried each year. Payment is made on board the train. No bookings are accepted (except for groups of at least 15 people). Pets are not permitted, except for guide dogs.
There are only 10 spaces for bicycles on board.
