Le Vieux Port - l'Ancien Port aux Huîtres

Once a hub for fishing and harvesting wild oysters, the old oyster port of Verdon-sur-Mer bears witness to traditional expertise that has now disappeared. A century ago, local fishermen brought their harvests back on board small flat-bottomed boats called "plates" before shucking and cleaning the oysters in the colourful wooden huts that lined the channel.

Although oyster farming died out in the 1970s, this iconic site has been given a new lease of life thanks to the local council. The old huts have been carefully restored and now house artists, craftspeople and designers: painters, sculptors, potters and photographers share their passion here, breathing new life into this place steeped in history.

Today, the old oyster port has become a lively and friendly space, combining culture, gastronomy and a summer atmosphere. Open-air cafés, oyster bars and crêperies invite you to enjoy a timeless moment by the water's edge. In summer, the Tuesday night market brings the place to life with a warm and authentic atmosphere, where locals and visitors alike gather to stroll and enjoy the unique setting.
