Lacanau en Live

3 poles, 3 atmospheres

  • The historic town of Lacanau (La Canau in Occitan), with its market, shops and services, its 13th century church, its kiosk and its lake port.
  • The lake, renowned for a wide variety of water sports, is also a place of wonder and relaxation in all seasons. In summer, the beaches come alive, the picnic areas fill up, without ever losing their authentic and friendly spirit!
  • The ocean, an internationally recognised surfing spot, will be the opportunity to take advantage of the Lacaze promenade, the shops and the activities of the seafront, with easy access to the fine sand and waves. Fancy a quiet place? The North, South and Super South beaches await you! You can get there by car, on foot or by bike thanks to the extensive network of cycle paths underneath the pine trees. A few more steps to cross the dunes and the immensity is yours...

Did you know that? The Etang de Cousseau

The Etang de Cousseau Nature Reserve is home to one of the few remaining primary forests in our region and is home to many species of birds. Take an afternoon to discover this protected natural area, which covers 900 hectares hidden behind the dunes and the forest of Lacanau.

Here, everything is beautiful, from the maritime pines to the pedunculate oaks, from the gentian pneumonanthe (protected in Gironde) to the reed beds, not to mention the egrets and lapwings or the hosts of these woods such as roe deer, stags or badgers. In winter, the Cousseau pond becomes the dormitory for the grey cranes which pass through Lacanau, before migrating southwards. All year round, visits are offered to discover the evolution of the fauna and flora, preserved in this environment.

Between festivals and gastronomy

Day and night, Lacanau spreads its energy. The laughter of the children, the noises escaping from the gardens, the smells of the market bring smiles to your face. Beware, here happiness is wildly contagious!
