A unique competition in France, a combination of land and sea made in Lacanau
The Surf & Golf Trophy is a competition created in Lacanau in 2015 with the idea of democratising the game of golf, which is much more popular than it seems, by using surfing, the main activity in Lacanau. The concept is simple and takes place over a weekend: teams of 4 have to score points in a freesurf event followed by a scramble golf event . On Saturday, the competition begins on the ocean side. In the evening, it’s time to relax and party. On Sunday, it’s off to the greens in Canaul. Every year, the event attracts around 100 participants, including both top-level competitors and first-timers, in a friendly, festive atmosphere.

Lacanau, the ideal playground for surfers and golfers
Lacanau’s reputation as one of Europe’s top surf spots is well established. But did you know that the town was also very popular with golfers ? In particular, it is famous for its international 18-hole course. With its spectacular waves and exceptional greens, creating a competition combining swing and swell was a no-brainer, wasn’t it ?
Surfing and golf, two sports united by the same values
For a weekend, and well beyond, surfers and golfers share the same values. First and foremost, respect for the environment: the ocean, like the green, needs to be pampered and respected! There’s also a love of the great outdoors, and an insatiable desire to excel in a magnificent setting that’s so motivating.
I discovered golf by taking part in the Surf & Golf Trophy and I’m convinced that the two sports enrich each other. On the green, you learn patience, an essential quality for a surfer who has to deal with a wilderness and weather conditions that are beyond his or her control. What golfers and surfers have in common is that we practise a sport in direct contact with the elements, in a vibrant environment that invites us to escape. Nature is our playground, and the emotions it brings are addictive in both sports…

A high-flying competition open to all
Want to try your luck? You don’t have to be Kelly Slater or Justine Dupont or Jack Nicklaus to enter ! The competition is open to everyone, with no criteria as to level (apart from good physical condition, of course), and a particularly friendly atmosphere. The only requirement is that there must be at least one surfer in your team of 4, because it’s not something you can improvise. Even if you’re just a visitor, the festive atmosphere of the Surf and Golf Trophy is well worth the diversions. Access to the partners’ village and its many attractions is free. There will even be golf and surfing lessons so that even the most reluctant can practise for next year !
