Surfing in the heart of nature at Gurp
Le Gurp beach in Grayan-et-l’Hôpital is an idyllic picture postcard for holidaymakers in search of nature and peace and quiet: a long stretch of sand, a wild and peaceful atmosphere, the Atlantic waves beckoning to surfers… Keep this secret well, and enjoy the feeling of being alone in the world at Le Gurp. From the beach, where the bunkers of the Atlantic Wall are now the pacifist canvas of graffiti artists, the panorama of the Gurp cove is exceptional, from the Plage de Dépée to the Pointe de la Négade, with the Cordouan lighthouse on the horizon.
Gurp beach
A wild paradise for surfers on the Atlantic coast
At the end of a single road leading to the ocean, a handful of campers discovered a wild beach in the 1950s, which they initially named “Gurp les Pins”. Opposite them was a heavenly surf spot in the middle of nature, where a serene and authentic atmosphere still reigns today. The beach at Le Gurp is so vast that it’s like being alone in the world…
For lovers of outdoor sports and unique experiences, adventure is just around the corner! In this authentic setting of unspoilt nature, the waves of the Atlantic are unfiltered for seasoned surfers. It’s a rare opportunity to experience a true moment of connection with the ocean.
A breathtaking view!
Summer or winter, on a towel or on a surfboard, the panoramic view from the site is breathtaking. In front of you, the Anse du Gurp stretches from the Plage de Dépée to the Pointe de la Négade, with the Cordouan lighthouse on the horizon.
The esplanade du Gurp has been specially designed to enjoy this natural panorama from the heights, leaving the seafront free of any installations. Climb up to the Belvedere or sit peacefully on the observation benches overlooking the beach after a surf session to watch the sun set…
A welcoming beach
For all holidaymakers
Of course, the secret of Le Gurp beach has been revealed by word of mouth since the 1950s, but the site is still very welcoming for holidaymakers of all profiles. A restaurant area, a secluded car park and an extended campsite in the middle of the pine forest make it easy to get away from it all, especially for families. All without detracting from any of its wild assets, protected from excessive urbanisation.
