Eclipse solaire

On Wednesday 12 August 2026, the sky will offer an extraordinary spectacle: a partial solar eclipse will be visible across the whole of France, with the darkening being particularly pronounced in the south-west and along the Atlantic coast. In the Médoc Atlantique region, the phenomenon is expected to be particularly spectacular in the early evening, as a large part of the sun will be obscured by the moon.

The peak of the solar eclipse is expected between 8.20 pm and 8.25 pm, depending on the region. This is a rare moment that can be experienced by the sea, on lakeshores or from a vantage point with an unobstructed view – provided the weather conditions are favourable.

To enjoy this astronomical phenomenon to the full, it is advisable to choose a viewing spot in advance with an unobstructed view to the west, as the solar eclipse will take place in the late afternoon.

Warning: Observe only with suitable protection
You must never look directly at the sun, not even during a solar eclipse. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide protection for the eyes. To observe the solar eclipse safely, it is essential to use special solar eclipse glasses or certified solar filters in accordance with the ISO 12312-2 standard.
