Heritage and Matrimony Day - 1st Edition
For the first time, Carcans is celebrating European Heritage and Matrimony Days on Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a day of discoveries exploring history, nature, memory, and local traditions.
Throughout the day, visitors can explore several of the town’s iconic—and sometimes lesser-known—sites: the Carcans Mill, the Maubuisson Chapel, the Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions, the Veterans’ Memorial Museum, the Corneillouse Lagoon, and the Pouch Sheep Park. The latter two sites will be accessible by reservation only.
Women’s history will also be highlighted through an exhibition dedicated to the women of Carcans during World War I, on continuous display in the City Council Chamber. Through photographs, stories, and personal accounts, discover their daily lives and the role they played during the Great War.
To make exploring easier, a tour with transportation provided by City Hall will connect the Corneillouse Lagoon, Pouch Park, the Maubuisson Chapel, and the Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions. Two departures are available at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; reservations are required at carcansevent@gmail.com.
The day will continue at 7:30 p.m. at Place de l’Église in Carcans-Ville with a friendly picnic organized by the Carcans Fête la Forêt (FEFOMM) association, in partnership with the municipality.
This is a wonderful opportunity to discover Carcans in a different light, gain a deeper understanding of its history, and take a fresh look at the heritage sites that shape the town’s identity.
