Musée d'art Contemporain de Soulac
In the mid-1970s, the original idea of a foundation bringing together artists from Aquitaine took shape.
From this idea emerged the Soulac Museum of Contemporary Art; through a combination of purchases and donations, our museum now boasts a collection of 265 works spanning all artistic movements.
From 19th-century landscape painters (Augui, Cabié, Lépine...) to 20th-century abstract artists (Gau, Calgani...), it is above all the great era of the Bordeaux Independents that is represented within our walls....
Ground floor exhibition:
‘The coastline and its sunken worlds’
This exhibition invites visitors to explore the history of the Aquitaine coastline and the landscapes that have disappeared as a result of the passage of time, erosion and rising sea levels. It combines scientific knowledge with artistic creations to raise public awareness of the fragility of our coastlines and current environmental challenges.
First-floor exhibition:
‘Soulac as seen by Gedo – When photography meets AI ”
This exhibition presents the work of photographer Gedo, who uses artificial intelligence to reinterpret images of Soulac-sur-Mer. The photographs are transformed and enhanced using digital tools, offering an original and sometimes surprising view of the town. This fusion of photography and artificial intelligence demonstrates how new technologies can revitalise artistic creation.
The exhibition opening will take place on Friday 3 July at 6.30 pm. This event will give visitors the chance to view the artworks, chat with the artists and enjoy a convivial gathering centred on art and culture.
Conclusion
The Museum of Art and Archaeology in Soulac-sur-Mer is a place where the past, present and future come together. Through its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, it offers a deeper understanding of the region’s history whilst introducing visitors to new forms of artistic creation.
