National sheepdog trial at Château Lamothe - Bergeron

National Sheepdog Trial: Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, 10.00–18.00 at Château Lamothe-Bergeron – Cussac-Fort-Médoc – 33 – Free entry.
The 10th edition of the Cussac-Fort-Médoc sheepdog trial promises to be a spectacular event, making the Médoc the unmissable gathering for the country’s finest handler-dog pairs.
Throughout the weekend, handlers and their dogs will take turns tackling courses tailored to three different levels, under the watchful eye of a national judge.
Spectators will be able to fully follow and understand the competitors’ performances, thanks to the commentary provided by Michèle Pellegrino, president of the organising association, Médoc’Laine. A top-level competitor with numerous appearances in French championships to her name, Michèle Pellegrino is also a judge and sheepdog trainer.
This competition, held within the magnificent Château Lamothe Bergeron in partnership with the Médoc’Laine and Tactichien associations, will showcase 150 sheep of rare breeds on courses that are as technical as they are inventive, devised by experienced national judges.
Whilst each day will conclude with a closing ceremony honouring the best pairs in each category, it is worth noting that Sunday is dedicated to the top pairs, as the day serves as a qualifier for the upcoming French Championships.
Throughout the competition, spectators will be able to stroll through the grounds of this magnificent château to enjoy a bite to eat, browse a market featuring local artisans and producers organised by Bélinda Evénementiel, sample the château’s fine wines, go for a pony ride or a horse-drawn carriage ride, and – why not? – take part in a free archery taster session.
As every year, this event is set to attract many visitors curious about pastoral traditions, animal lovers and those who enjoy a friendly atmosphere.
