How do I get to Vensac?
Nestling between the ocean and the estuary, well sheltered by the marshes, Vensac’s fortress of tranquillity might seem impregnable. Think again: this adorable village typical of the Médoc region is easily accessible by train or car, and its beach is even on the route of two major European cycling and walking routes!
By car
From Bordeaux, Vensac is about 90 km away, and takes about 1? hours. Take the D1215 towards Le Verdon-sur-Mer. The other option, for a bit of a stroll too, is to follow the Route des Lacs via Carcans and Hourtin.
From Lyon, take the A89, then the N89 and join the A630 (exit 8 towards Le Verdon-sur-Mer). Then take the D1215 towards Le Verdon.
From the right bank and the north, a ferry crossing of the Gironde is a must!
By ferry
From the right bank, take the ferry (with or without the car) between Blaye and Lamarque, then take the D1215.
From the north (Charente), join Royan and cross the Gironde by ferry to Le Verdon.
Cruises on the Estuary will also take you to Port Médoc, not far from Vensac.
By train or bus
From Bordeaux, by TER(line 42), the nearest station is Soulac-sur-Mer (9km). If you don’t have a means of transport to cover the 9 km from Soulac, you can take bus route 4214 to Vensac. Alternatively, take line 422 to Lesparre and then line 4214 to Vensac.
From Paris: Bordeaux is now 2 hours away by TGV. Go as far as Bordeaux, then take the TER train that runs along the estuary in the Médoc or the bus lines.
On foot or by bike
Two major itineraries pass by Vensac’s unspoilt Atlantic beach: the Voie Littorale, the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, and La Vélodyssée, the major Atlantic cycle route. A godsend for those who like to take it easy! Once you’ve reached the beach, you’re not far from Le Bourg: give your pedals a last push to say hello to the mounaques in this picturesque Médoc village.
From Bordeaux, we recommend cycling along the Atlantic coast rather than sharing the road with cars on the D215. Join Lacanau, then follow theEuroVélo 1 route to Vensac.
