Sea celebrations are a time to remember and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives at sea. With open-air masses and wreath-laying in the ocean, these days are structuring moments and events that are typical of coastal resorts and towns. They generally take place around 15 August and are a real time for celebration and communion with the ocean.
The Sea Festival
Join us on 15 August for the traditional Fêtes de la Mer, a summer highlight combining entertainment, a friendly atmosphere and a celebration of maritime heritage.
Tribute and tradition
Generally, a sea festival begins with an open-air mass facing the ocean, as a time for reflection and to remember those lost at sea. Fishermen, surfers and families gather for a moment of silence. Afterwards, bandas and bands lead the crowd down to the ocean to lay wreaths in tribute to those taken by the sea.

At Lacanau Océan, I love rowing out to sea with the surfers for that moment of total communion with the ocean. You have to experience it at least once !
