On the outskirts of Port de Richard, between mattes, vines and carrelets, put a little water in your wine by staying at Valeyrac… Here, the breathtaking, serene views of the Gironde Estuary coexist with the vineyards and their typical heritage. It’s the perfect place to take a stroll and make some wonderful discoveries!

From the banks of the Estuary, you can see the Atlantic in the distance, as well as the Charente coast on a clear day. On the way up to the port of Goulée, you’ll be surprised by the picturesque atmosphere of the fishermen’s huts. This ancient Gallo-Roman site was famous for its oyster farming! As you head back inland towards the forest or vineyards, the clayey smell of the mattes reminds you of how the Médoc inhabitants gradually drained the surrounding marshes. And along the footpaths, where the flora and fauna are protected, it’s not unusual to come across green lizards, European cistudes, egrets, seagulls and other estuarine avifauna...

Take a roadtrip from Valeyrac to Bordeaux along the emblematic Médoc wine route, passing through the Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Margaux, Saint Estèphe, Saint-Julien, Moulis, Pauillac and Listrac appellations. In 1855, Napoleon III had an official classification drawn up for the region’s wines !

Goldilocks at Valeyrac

There are two possible walking routes from the centre of the charming village of Valeyrac. Starting from the church, the Goulée loop (6.1 km) takes you north to its typical Médoc port, with views of the lock, channel and carrelets. Further south, the estuary loop (10.4 km) takes you as far as Château Ricaudet Troussas. An easy, dog-friendly route.
