On the banks of Lac d’Hourtin with the whole family
On the edge of the Réserve Naturelle des Dunes et Marais d’Hourtin, Lac d’Hourtin is a haven of peace for freshwater swimming and family beach games, less than an hour from Bordeaux. Surrounded by a forest protected by the ONF, its clear waters are shallow in the supervised swimming areas. A green oasis for the whole family!
The hidden lakeside village of Piqueyrot is an old fishing village shaded by pine trees. On the supervised beach in summer, you’ll find Sunday bathers perfecting their tan, budding sandcastle builders and future catamaran champions on courses at the UCPA club. It’s well worth a place on the podium of our family favourites!
Are your children grown up and looking for a thrill? Original and trendy water sports are all the rage in Hourtin. Why not try wing-foil or kitesurfing on the lake as a family? While the little ones enjoy a safe, supervised swim with Uncle or Granny on the beach, you can also go windsurfing with your teenagers.
Hourtin marina is perfect for a peaceful family lunch, with restaurants offering child-friendly menus and high chairs for babies. Cousins will also have plenty of room to play while they wait for their meals.
If you prefer the sandwich option, there are picnic areas at Lac d’Hourtin where you can enjoy lunch in the heart of nature, overlooking the water and pine trees.

L'Île aux enfants really does exist at Lac d'Hourtin
Grandparents will shed a tear when they think of Casimir. Parents will have the famous theme tune stuck in their heads all day long. But children will be making their own memories on the slides and swings.
In Hourtin, l’île aux Enfants is the temple of fun, far from the cars and the city. This vast wooden playground with a large castle will delight your young pirates.
Then join them on the splash park water course, where the water cushions the falls but not the giggles.
Did you know? Every year, on the 2ᵉ weekend in June, the Médoc Atlantique Tourist Office organises the Bambino fait son Show, a festival for children aged 3 to 12 years!
