The paths

The nature reserve is a treasure trove of biodiversity, with several trails to suit all abilities:

The Oak Trail : this 3.2km trail takes you through majestic hundred-year-old oak trees, immersing you in ancient dunes and offering panoramic views of the lake and surrounding marshes.

The Lobélie trail: accessible and family-friendly, this 2.2km trail runs along the shores of Lac d’Hourtin, offering breathtaking views, particularly of the Pointe du Gaouléou, a veritable haven of peace.

The Rousserolles Trail : this 3.8km path, shaded by pines and oaks, offers a welcome coolness in summer and leads to the Pointe du Gaouléou, with its 360° panoramic view over the lake.

The Broom Trail : this 4.5km path winds along the dune belt, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and crossing the Landes de Gascogne forest, where maritime pines and broom perfume the air.

The sporty deer trail : at 5km, this is Piqueyrot’s longest walking loop, ideal for hikers in search of an escape and a variety of landscapes, from dense forest to clearings.

The Hourtin walking trail : At 13 km long, this trail forms a large loop around the village of Hourtin, passing through pine forests, agricultural clearings, forest tracks and lakeside scenery..

The Contaut lagoon

Guided tour and 100% nature walk

The Contaut lagoon trail is at the heart of the dunes and marshes nature reserve in Hourtin. This walking trail takes you through royal osmonds and giant ferns… On a wooden footbridge over the marshes, children will feel like little researchers thanks to the equipment surrounding the pond. And who knows, if you’re good, you might even spot an Aquitaine cistude…
Every summer, the Office National des Forêts d’Hourtin puts together a colourful programme of events. From encounters with bats and the bellowing of the stag to sensory walks, all the secrets of the Contaut Lagoon will be revealed to you.
