Circular walk to Richard's Lighthouse
Come and explore the charming village of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac, once an island surrounded by the waters of the Gironde estuary. This area, with its rich history and natural heritage, invites you to take a stroll through its unspoilt countryside. As you wander along the paths, you might be lucky enough to spot a green lizard (Lacerta viridis) or even observe the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), a rare aquatic turtle. Continue your walk along the dykes overlooking the estuary, and let yourself be captivated by the beauty of the matte (man-made polders – marshes and channels) stretching as far as the eye can see. Be sure to stop off at the archaeological site of the chapel or the picturesque port of Richard. Standing 18 metres tall, the Richard lighthouse museum offers a panoramic viewpoint. From its summit, enjoy a 360° view stretching across the estuary and the surrounding countryside. A true getaway into the heart of nature and history, ideal for lovers of walking and exploration.
