O’Sisters Gospel Blues: Three singers, gospel and blues!

In the beginning there was the blues; Blind Willie Johnson and Reverend Mississippi John Hurt sang of their faith whilst accompanying themselves on steel-string guitars. Gospel drew inspiration from this blues and evolved into forms where the vocals took centre stage.

O’Sisters Gospel Blues is a gospel-blues band whose repertoire consists of gospel and blues standards composed by preachers in the early 20th century.

The band comprises six musicians from the Médoc region who live in Soulac, Vensac and Saint-Vivien-de-Médoc:
Corinne Becker: vocals and percussion
Carla Closier: vocals and flute
Betty Closier: vocals
Michel Logvenoff: guitar, vocals
David Mondou: double bass
Jean-Marie Peyrin: saxophones

The band’s set list comprises:
- gospel standards: ‘Go Down Moses’, ‘Down by the Riverside’, ‘Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho’, ‘Oh When the Saints’, ‘Amazing Grace’, …
- gospel blues: ‘John the Revelator’, ‘Since I Laid My Burden Down’, ‘Wade in the Water’
- ‘Southern gospel’ tracks, some of which featured in the Coen brothers’ film ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’: ‘Down in the River to Pray’, ‘I’ll Fly Away’, ‘Nobody But the Baby’, ‘Welcome Table’

And songs that could be considered gospel, such as ‘Let It Be’ or ‘Hallelujah’

The O’Sisters Gospel Blues group gave successful performances in 2025 and 2026 in churches in Saint-Vivien-de-Médoc, Queyrac, Talais, Vensac, Gaillan-Médoc, Lacanau, Hourtin and Soulac.
