Of the six communal appellations, Saint-Estèphe is undoubtedly the one that offers the greatest variety of terroirs. Its vineyard is planted on gravelly hilltops that are particularly well drained, protecting the vines from excess moisture. This terroir is also characterized by a subsoil of clay and limestone, which give the wines their personality and make them sought after all over the world. Just right for the vines to thrive, the soil of Saint-Estèphe is perfectly suited to the Atlantic climate: mild and rainy at the beginning of the season, hot and stormy in summer, dry and warm at harvest time.
