Chateau La Hourcade

In the turmoil of the 1940s, Septime Cecchini, an Italian from the Florentine mountains, worked to defend the coastline. “Les Diguayres”. He fell in love with the Médoc and... a woman from Pauillac. They were married and had one daughter and seven sons. Mr. Cecchini, who became French, educated himself and became a postman in Jau-Dignac and Loirac.

Outside of work, this lover of good food acquired 4 hectares of vines which, nearly 50 years later, would produce the smallest cuvée of Château La Hourcade. In 1985, Gino, his youngest son, bought the vineyard. Gino, an accomplished horse rider, served in the French mounted cavalry. Until 1988, the harvest was therefore taken to the cooperative cellar. But during his years of service, he did not lose sight of his native Médoc and, together with his brother Florent, they bought adjoining plots to expand the vineyard. In 1989, having returned to his region, he left the cooperative to make his own wine and start a family. Now the owner of more than 18 hectares of vines, a former municipal councillor and then mayor of the village until 2014, Gino is now passing on his passion to his son Quentin, who has returned from Bordeaux to devote himself to the family estate.
Gino Cecchini is a winegrower who is committed to working the vines and loves and respects the land. “For sustainable and reasonable winegrowing.” Classified as a cru artisan in 2023.
