Here, surfing is lived! Imagine: a multitude of beachbreak surf spots along 120 km of coastline, exposed to good weather conditions and in a preserved setting! From Lacanau to Verdon-sur-Mer, whether you are a novice or an experienced surfer, it is impossible not to find the wave that suits you. Festivals, competitions, exhibitions, surfing is a way of life and a state of mind. To learn or improve, Médoc Atlantique also has around fifty surf schools.

Surfing and the Médoc is a little-known story that goes back to the days of the "Tontons surfeurs" of Biarritz. First practised at the end of the 50's, surfing became more popular in the 70's thanks to the quality and variety of the waves but especially thanks to the improvement of the equipment.
At the end of the 60s, surfing arrived in the Médoc! It was Marcel Monge and Francis Maugard, two Médoc residents who had been in contact with the Tontons surfeurs, who first imported surfing to the Médoc.

Waves for everyone

From Lacanau to Verdon-sur-Mer, it's impossible not to find the wave that suits you! If you like tricks and tubes? Lacanau Océan is ideal but when it's a bit too big, Soulac-sur-Mer is a confirmed fallback spot! Finally, Carcans Océan, Hourtin Plage or Naujac-sur-Mer, Grayan-et l'Hopital and Le Verdon sur Mer are appreciated for surfing in a wild and preserved nature.

More than a sport, surfing is a way of life and a state of mind. So here we celebrate! From photo and painting exhibitions to competitions and from the most intimate to the most famous festival, you are bound to feel the surfing vibe. The must-see? The Caraïbos Lacanau Pro of course! For 15 days, the town of Lacanau lives even more than usual to the rhythm of surfing.
