Le sentier des canaux

Distance : 8 kmDuration : 1h45Type d'itinéraire : on footDifficulté : Easy

"Ideal for a digestive stroll with your guests, in less than 2 hours, from the lake front promenade to the world of the marshes, the path along the canal of the ponds is accessible in all seasons to discover the heritage of your Medoc lakes.

To immerse yourself in the world of the marshes with your family or friends, the canal path offers you an ideal setting! What can you show your guests during a Sunday afternoon digestive stroll?
Look no further, these 8 km from the Place du Pôle in Carcans-Maubuisson (opposite the Tourist Office) will delight your friends with the discovery of the marshes, the canals built to drain them and the Montaut lock.

This one is equipped with an automated boat lock... with a bit of luck the boat that arrives will use it under your eyes, letting you discover its clever mechanism, for the rest, it is difficult to imagine that the flow of water that runs under our eyes, will join the Arcachon basin where you were yesterday, tasting a basket of oysters, to enrich it with fresh water.

In a few kilometres not far from the town and starting from the lake front promenade, this path, accessible in all seasons (remember to put on boots in winter!) suddenly offers an immersion in the atmosphere of the Médoc marshes.

From the path, the ducks on the water are probably mallards or teal, and the hut hidden from their view is a hunting barrel. Barrel hunting is an ancient and popular activity on the shores of lakes and their marshes.
Look up, the bird of prey circling overhead is a black kite or if you are lucky, the distinction of its white body will reveal the elegance of the osprey that comes to feed on the marshes. For those who prefer to have their feet on the ground, as you lower your eyes, pay attention to the traces that appear under your steps, otters are very fond of crayfish, the shells of which they have eaten litter the dark sand of the path.

Are your laces tight? Then go!
